Kitchen Makeover on a budget

I wanted to share with you a Kitchen makeover that was done by the home owners themselves.  They wanted the look of a new Kitchen but new cabinets were not in the budget. They took there old cabinets and made them over.

First they sanded the cabinets down, applied two coats of primer. To give the cabinet fronts a bead board look,  they used wall paper with raised bead board lines on it. They  glued it to the cabinets and then primed them.

Several coats of paint were applied to the cabinets. They did replace the appliances. Doing most of the work themselves, they saved a ton of money.

Here is a clever idea to hide all those chargers, keys, wall phones. They bought a medicine cabinet that was marked down. They painted it the cabinet colors, decorated the front with fabric and ribbon to hold pictures.

I hope this inspires you in your home improvement projects. You can make a room look very different with paint and some good old fashion elbow grease.

I’m impressed with what can be achieved with a lot of imagination and just a little money. This goes to show that if you have some basic skills and are prepared to have a go you can totally transform your kitchen.

I’ve done a similar project myself by re-using a set of units which my daughter wanted to replace when her kitchen was remodeled. All I needed to buy was lighting, tiles and paint.

You could probably apply a similar renovation to other rooms in your house.
